Kaat De Schoenmaeker

Designer from
Belgium

With such a surname, Kaat had an interest in designing and manufacturing shoes. She felt she had to do something in the world of shoes, her ancestors were most likely shoemakers.
Kaat is hugely inspired and fascinated by abstract and non-figurative art, especially the artists Kandinsky, Twombly, Rothko, Moore, Mondrian, ... have an influence on her creations. Colours, squares and lines are the common thread in her work.
Besides designing shoes, she also teaches as an art teacher in a high school, designs and paints creative murals together with a good friend and has a penchant for making sculptures.
You can compare her shoes to sculptures: timeless, spacious and engaging. She also resolutely opts for a wooden heel, which she says is a link with sculptures made of wood.
